The Resurrectionists are taking time off and cutting new trails in music and life. Resurrectionists front and co-creator Ben Crouch and drummer Ben Dicke are launching their new project at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge on May, 12. Dispatch from The Long Way Home

As if you couldn’t tell from our aggressive Facebook promotions, we’re in the early stages of our most aggressive band effort to date: two weeks (and some change) on the road to the midwest, south, and northeast. We’re calling it “The Long Way Home”, as we’re hitting all of our hometowns in highly indirect fashion.

Today’s dispatch comes from stop 4 on the tour–Kansas City. We’re playing two full sets at The Record Bar, starting at 10PM. The band should be limber as we’re fresh off a) three solid efforts in Boston, Buffalo, and Chicago and b) three herculean drives which have us ready to unleash a torrent of pent-up energy on this monday night audience.

Tomorrow it’s onto Joplin, Missouri for some home cooking from the Kissel clan, a closeup of a slowly-recovering, but still hurting town, and hopefully some more great music. Then we begin to wind back down south.

July 8: Arsenal Arts in Watertown

The Resurrectionists are gettin’ all artsy-fartsy…for one night at least. We’re bringing our brand of Americana fervor to the elegant Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown as part of the “Play in the Black Box” series. Sounds creepy. We like it.

Watertowners like to do their hollering early, so the show starts before sunset. Prepare accordingly. One other thing: this may be the last local show before we strike out for Joplin and various points in between in August. It would be great to see some familiar faces before we hit the road.

The band is heading to Atwoods Tavern on Saturday June 4 to raise a ruckus and some funds in support of family and friends of the band who lost their homes in the May 22nd tornado that touched down in Joplin, MO. Joplin is one of two places in the foothills of the Ozarks that band co-front Alex Kissel calls home and is a scheduled stop on our summer Long Way Home Tour (update soon!). We (and he especially) would be very pleased to have you in the audience that night. We will be sending the dollars you spend at the door and Resurrectionists merch directly to victims of the tornado.

We loved the New England Americana Fest so much we decided to take a little slice of it with us for our next Dark Holler Stomp. We created the Dark Holler a coupla years back to showcase progressive Americana outfits that weren’t afraid to plumb the depths, and shows just get better and better. Saturday’s bash may be the best one yet. We’re linking up with Cactus Attack, a who’s full-frontal string salvos we fell in love with at the aforementioned fest, and the mighty Kieran Ridge Band, whose melodies (and performance chops) have been making an impression on us for awhile now. We’ve also got our old pal Dan Fram on hand. He may out-talent us all combined.

Showtime is at 9. Party time will continue until close.

Also worth mentioning that this Dark Holler will be the last big show for awhile. We’re rapidly stringing together tour dates this summer, and we’ve got things percolating for July, but after many months of solid shows, we are taking a little time to breathe the sweet spring air. So please come holler with us one last time before summer. Look forward to raising a glass this Saturday!

Circle April 30 on your calendars, cause this gig is both a feel-good benefit for the Somerville Homeless Coalition and a mighty crush of talent. Its Waits, so you know the songs are gonna be good. No risk there. Plus, we’re surrounded by: Coyote Kolb, Dan Baker, Danielle Miraglia, Dave Aaronoff and The Protagonists, Joe Fletcher, Movers & Shakers, Sleepy Very Sleepy, Tig & Bean, Tim Gearan, and Tony the Bookie.

Fast breaking news flash! We’ve been invited to play the coolest, coziest confines in Inman Square, Atwoods Tavern, TOMORROW, April 9. With Dicke out of town on bidness, we’ll be welcoming the city’s resident Americana drummist, Mike Piehl, to the skins for this special Saturday show. We’ll be playing a coupla sets, sprinkling in some rarities and new tunes. Even better, it’ll cost you nothing. That’s right:
